Performance during ‘Sweet Summer Nights’ 2006, in the sculpture garden of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.Bunny is a three-hour performance, the time it takes to unravel the dress by walking.
At the start of the performance I am wearing a self-crocheted dress, with matching underwear and long socks. It is reminiscent of the sturdy, homemade underwear of my grandmother’s day. But I was also inspired by the lingerie of the nightclub bunny of the 50s and 60s.
A pink, crocheted mask covers my face. In my hands I carry a tray of pink sweets. Among those sweets is a loudspeaker that is connected to my body by a cable. Every minute a seductive voice purrs from the loudspeaker, inviting people to help themselves.
Mmmmmm… Fancy a bit of something sweet? ... Mmmmmm… Go on, you know you want to…
Walking slowly through the garden, I offer my sweets to the public.
My dress is not hemmed or fastened off. A ball of yarn hangs from the bottom. The temptation is too much for some visitors; they tug at the ball of yarn. As I wander through the garden, my dress slowly unravels, leaving a long woollen trail on the path.
